Lions Gate Films’ “A Love Song for Bobby Long” will be released in theaters nationwide on January 16th. The Hollywood Reporter says of the film: “…its pleasures will linger long,” and hailed its “masterful soundtrack.”
The soundtrack (to be released on January 11 on Hyena records) features the film’s title theme song “Lorraine’s Song” - a recording that is currently surrounded by the buzz of a possible Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. “Lorraine’s Song” was written by New Orleans soulman Grayson Capps (who wrote and performed six of the album songs) and the acclaimed recording features the powerful and emotive vocals of Big Easy songbird Theresa Andersson. In “Lorraine’s Song,” Capps and Anderson eloquently capture the strong spirit, delicate vulnerability and undying hope that envelope the film, and that characterize their hometown of New Orleans.
“A Love Song for Bobby Long” is the feature film directorial debut of Shainee Gabel (ANTHEM), who wrote the screenplay based on Ronald Everett Capps' soon-to-be-published novel, Off Magazine Street. Everett Capps’ son is Grayson, who handed over his father’s unpublished novel to Shainee in 1997. During a brief conversation between the two, Shainee had divulged to her interest in directing a film based in New Orleans. Seven years later, Shainee came back to Grayson to ask for his help with the film’s soundtrack.
“’A Love Song for Bobby Long’ pays homage to the invisible people,” says Grayson. “The intention is that there's beauty everywhere -- you just have to open your eyes. It's easy to tell a story like that in New Orleans.”A slightly different version of “Lorraine’s Song” appears as a bonus track on Theresa Andersson’s spring 2004 release Shine. Hailed as the Big Easy’s sexiest songbird, Andersson has also garnered a reputation as one of the finest musicians in a city of fine musicians. Theresa was recently nominated by Gambit Weekly readers as New Orleans’ Top Rock Band. The Swedish born musician also recently appeared at London’s Wembley Stadium for the prestigious Fender Stratocaster 50th Anniversary Celebration. In addition to her involvement in the forthcoming A Love Song for Bobby Long, Andersson recently made a cameo appearance in The Brooke Ellison Story, the A&E cable TV movie directed by Christopher Reeve which premiered October 25th. Along with her cameo performance, Andersson’s song “It’s Gonna Be OK” (which was co-written by X-beau and bandmate Anders Osborne) was featured throughout the film.
